ECT Service
ECT or electroconvulsive therapy is one of the most effective treatments, it’s a safe and clinically proven treatment for individuals suffering from severe depression and other treatment-resistant illnesses that have not responded to the more traditional psychiatric interventions of medications and therapy.
What is Electroconvulsive therapy?
ECT is a therapeutic procedure in which a doctor induces a medically controlled seizure using electrical currents in a patient who is put under general anesthesia. The entire procedure lasts only about five minutes. ECT is generally well-tolerated. Most patients report feeling back to baseline within a few hours.
Conditions we treat with ECT include but are not limited to
- Depression (severe symptoms, treatment-resistant, or with psychotic symptoms)
- Mania and bipolar depression
- Schizophrenia with acute exacerbation and schizoaffective disorders
- Catatonia (a condition that affects speech and movement)
- Severe acute psychosis to prevent the illness from being chronic .
