At Serene Psychiatry Hospital, we are committed to identifying, always protecting and promoting the rights of every patient and family. The following rights are guaranteed in accordance with our official policies, the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) licensing standards, and the Ministry of Health (MOH) of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Your Rights as a Patient
- Right to Privacy
- You have the right to privacy during all examinations, procedures, and treatments carried out at Serene Psychiatry Hospital.
- Right to Dignity and Respect for Your Values and Beliefs
- Your personal values, beliefs, and cultural practices are respected throughout your entire treatment journey. Our staff are committed to protecting your personal values and beliefs and accommodating your cultural requirements including meals, dressing, religious and spiritual matters, as long as this does not interfere with other patients' safety or contradict hospital rules and the laws of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
- Right to Confidentiality of Your Information
- All information related to your health and treatment is strictly confidential and will only be shared with authorized persons involved in your care. You have the right to authorize specific family members or significant others to receive information about your health status and participate in your care decisions.
- Right to Informed Consent
- You have the right to make informed decisions about your treatment. Before any diagnostic or therapeutic intervention, your treating doctor will provide you with clear information about:
- Your medical condition and provisional diagnosis
- The proposed treatment plan
- Potential benefits and drawbacks
- Possible alternatives
- Likelihood of success
- Possible recovery issues
- All anticipated and unanticipated outcomes, both favorable and unfavorable
- The identity of the doctor and medical staff responsible for your care
- This information will be communicated in a language you understand. If translation is required, the hospital will arrange this for you.
- Right to Participate in Your Care
- You have the right to actively participate in your own care process. You may authorize significant others to receive information about your health status and join in care decisions. If you are unconscious, mentally ill, or a minor, this information will be provided automatically to your next of kin.
- Right to Safe and Quality Care
- You have the right to receive psychiatric care that meets the highest international standards. Serene Psychiatry Hospital provides specialized inpatient and outpatient psychiatric management, including:
- Medication management
- Individual, marital, family, and group psychotherapy
- Psycho-educational programs
- Rehabilitation and vocational services
- Self-help groups
- Right to Know About Available and Unavailable Services
- You have the right to be fully informed about the services available at the hospital and about any services that are not available on-site. Where specialist services beyond our scope are required, the hospital has arranged outsourced contracts for laboratory, radiology, emergency, patient transfer, and referral consultation services. You will always be kept informed of any delays in your care with a valid reason and an estimated timeframe.
- Right to Protection from Physical Assault
- Serene Psychiatry Hospital is committed to protecting all patients from physical assault during their visit or stay. Special attention and protection is provided to vulnerable groups including children, elderly patients, and persons with physical or mental incapacity.
- Right to Submit Complaints and Feedback
- You have the right to voice complaints, concerns, or differences of opinion without fear. Serene Psychiatry Hospital promotes your right to report issues through different channels. All complaints are:
- Treated with dignity and courtesy
- Kept strictly confidential
- Reported to the Administration Office for proper management
- Investigated to identify root causes and corrective actions
- Used to improve our services
- Right to Receive Information in an Understandable Language
- You have the right to receive all information, including the Bill of Rights and Responsibilities, in both Arabic and English. If you face communication barriers, the hospital will take steps to overcome them so your rights are fully understood.
- Right to High-Risk Patient Protections
- If you are classified as a high-risk patient including children, elderly, physically challenged, or patients with contagious conditions you will receive enhanced supervision, monitoring, and care to ensure your safety throughout your stay.
Your Responsibilities as a Patient
In order to receive the best possible care, we kindly ask that you:
- Respect the rights and privacy of other patients and hospital staff
- Provide honest and accurate information about your health, medications, and history
- Follow the agreed treatment plan and hospital rules and regulations
- Inform your care team if you do not understand your treatment or instructions
- Respect hospital property and the property of others
- Treat all staff and other patients with dignity and respect
Visitor Rights
- Right to a Safe Environment
- Visitors have the right to access a safe, clean, and professionally managed psychiatric facility.
- Right to Be Informed
- Visitors have the right to receive clear information about visiting policies, ward guidelines, and how they can support their loved one's recovery.
- Right to Raise Concerns
- Visitors have the right to raise concerns or complaints about any aspect of the hospital environment or care they observe. All concerns are handled with dignity, confidentiality, and in line with our complaints policy.
- Right to Participate in Care (With Patient Consent)
- Where clinically appropriate and with the patient's consent, family members and visitors may be involved in care planning and treatment discussions, particularly in cases where the patient has authorized them as a significant other or next of kin.
